Guild Wars Individual Re-Releases
June 2008
I designed the individual re-releases of the four Guild Wars editions, along with the Guild Wars Complete Collection, in June 2008. The releases were intended to be the last set of SKUs (shop-keeping units) of the original Guild Wars franchise; they had to be of high quality and flexible to fit a range of jewel case sizes, and to work with existing stock of manuals and other included items. The four re-releases had to work individually and as a complete set, so needed a strong consistent design to bring unity to the whole franchise.
To achieve this, I’d already simplified the design of the Complete Collection, so did a similar exercise with these. For each of the three games and one expansion pack, there was a singular female character from the game that identified it, so I used high resolution versions of these characters and placed them as close-ups on the cover of each box in the same position on each. Treatment of the logos, titles, and screenshots are consistent across all four boxes, and elements common to all, such as the bonus in-game ‘Fire Imp’ are maintained in the same location. The typography and layout for the individual boxes is consistent with the Complete Collection, so that this final set of releases work well together.
